One Year Anniversary: "Fun"known Facts About Our Wedding Day!

Some of the best moments of weddings are behind the scenes, things that the majority of wedding guests may not know. Nich and I had the absolute best wedding day and wouldn't have changed a thing, but there are so many fun little details that are worth sharing - some of which are hilarious, some of which are little saucy!

If you want to find out some fun pieces of unknown information about our wedding day, scroll through the pictures!

I LOVE these girls so much! Having a big wedding party was so much fun. We got ready at complimentary bridal suite because of where we booked our ceremony, but it was a small room that wasn't really meant for my 10-person bridal party! We took this picture just outside of the room so we could all be more comfortable!

This picture was as staged as it gets, and the laughter in this pic was real because it felt so silly!

We had to completely move the makeup vanity to achieve this lighting - our photographers definitely deserved A+ for their effort and skill.

I also did my own makeup and was really happy with my look!

This picture leads up to one of the funniest moments of the day. When I was walking out from the bridal suite to finish getting ready at the chapel, Nich actually pulled into the parking lot of the hotel I was getting ready at - AHH! Because I didn't want him to see me, I hid behind random cars with my gigantic bag in my white robe to avoid him seeing me. On top of that, he made a wrong turn and had to COME BACK to where I was! I leapt around several cars and ducked behind them like a fool - making several passerbys laugh. It was pretty hilarious, but very stressful!

*Very few people are privy to this information!*

Someone from my wedding party delivered Nich a package that I assembled for him in a personalized box: his favorite snack, his favorite gum and a note that told him to text me when he received the gift. Once I got that text from him, I sent some VERY private photos for his eyes only! I had boudoir shots done to surprise Nich while he was getting ready. His face says it all, so I'll leave it at that!

Nich also surprised me by having someone deliver Duck Donuts! These are probably one of my most favorite things in life, so this was a fun and tasty surprise.

Look at all of these handsome gents! The fellows on either side of Nich are his 2 best men - both did a wonderful job supporting him!

Didn't I have the most STUNNING bridal party ever?! We took our bridal party pictures before the ceremony and I would highly recommend this. It saved plenty of time after the ceremony to prioritize the family, and bride and groom shots.

My mom and my sister helped me into my wedding dress, because it was très big for my petite self. I had a crinoline petty coat to fluff up my dress, then my actual gown on top of that. It was a whole lot of tulle and chiffon!

Three generations of married women in my family: my grandma, my mom, my sister and I.

No, my dad didn't cry! But it was such a sweet moment seeing my dad for the first time that day all done up. It was one of the last moments we had together before I became a married lady.

Walking down that aisle, wow. My wedding coordinator told me it would go by fast so I needed to walk slowly, but as soon as I saw Nich, my mom had to keep me at a slow pace because I wanted to run towards him! (I also basically cried).

It was hard for me to clearly see Nich because he was so far away, and since the aisle was quite long. But according to everyone I hear this from, Nich instantly started tearing up when he saw me.

Nich and I wrote our own vows - something very special to us. We had a few sessions of pre-marital counseling that discussed what vows really mean, and it hit us hard. We weren't only vowing our promises towards each other, but to the Holy Spirit as well. We carefully and consciously wrote our vows after realizing the sincerity of a wedding vow.

Hearing his commitment to me, and to the Lord, is one of the most precious moments in our relationship. (He also vowed to keep me safe from my ultimate fear, cockroaches!)

This is not the greatest quality picture because it was taken from a distance on an iPhone, but my wedding dress came with pockets! I kept my vow in the pocket facing the audience, and heard a collective gasp as I took it out!

Our parents prayed over us as the rest of our guests sang a worship song. We wanted to begin our marriage in prayer and family, as both are integral parts of our relationship.

I felt so impatient and excited to kiss him after all of the anticipation, and WOW it was so surreal that I can scarcely describe how I felt! One of the questions we get asked the most was if this kiss was rehearsed - nope!

Simply put, we were PUMPED to finally be married!

My new family! I'm truly so blessed to marry into a group of kind-hearted and loving people.

Nich's new family! Hopefully he feels the same ;)

These pics are some of my absolute favorites of that day...

Also, my lips quickly dried out from smiling so much and kissing Nich!

"I am 16 going on 17, innocent as a rose..."

Someone brought McDonald's between the ceremony and reception, and was kind enough to give us their fries. We were STARVING.

Being announced into the reception as man and wife felt exciting! We obviously couldn't contain ourselves, as you can see.

Nich and I are big time dancers. We became dance partners when we started dating for the second time after spending a year & a half apart, significantly impacting our relationship. We both realized how special we were to each other, while learning the depth of our strong connection, learning to rely on one another and how to love each other on a whole new level.

Most of the dancing I've done with my dad have been to ABBA, E.L.O. and the Beach Boys when I was a little girl. I knew if he were to get emotional at any part of the day, it would be during our father-daughter dance. So to keep things light hearted, we invited all of the fathers and daughters onto the dance floor. This way it was a special moment for more than just my dad and I.

Nich and his mom have a very special relationship, one that I'm very thankful for as his wife. Seeing the way he respects and cherishes his mother made me so comfortable going into a serious relationship with him, because I knew that he would treat me just as well.

Because my family is Danish, we implemented a Danish wedding tradition of singing a personalized song to a well known tune! My grandma flew all the way from Denmark, prepared with personalized lyrics to the tune of "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean" for our guests to sing. My dad and one of our best family friends led everyone to this song, and it is one of the highlights of that night!

My matron of honor is my absolute best friend for life, my sister, and a fabulous speech giver! Nich's two best men each gave a speech as well, so we felt triple-honored to have some of our closest friends and family dedicate speeches to us!

Honestly, this was one of my favorite parts of the reception! My younger brother and his friends did a surprise choreographed dance to one of my favorite songs by Queen, "Don't Stop Me Now." I cannot describe the level of hype I had seeing all them ABSOLUTELY kill this dance!

And the dancing began! (The main goal we had for our reception was to have the dance floor full all night, which I personally think was achieved! From congo lines, to line dances, to 80s classics, to getting down, we had a BLAST! Both of my grandmas were even out on the dance floor busting some moves.

A quick dancing break to take some sunset pictures! Our reception was at a yacht club, so we were lucky enough to be able to go outside of the ballroom for fresh air and beautiful waterside views.

Cutting the cake came at a good time in the night when we needed to refuel after all the dancing!

Mm that lemon cake was GOOD! No, we did not smash it in each other's faces. I specifically told Nich not to because I spent too much time and money on my wedding makeup LOL! We ate our cake the day after our wedding too when we opened our presents, and it tasted just as yummy.

One of my closest friends caught the throw bouquet, and I think she was actually the next person in my wedding party to get married! Looks like the superstitious wedding tradition works after all!

I hardly remember leaving and walking through the tunnel of bubbles and cheering. It all went by so fast!

You can't really tell in this picture, but a few people in our wedding party surprised us to by decorating our car with balloons, little confetti balls and a number of other funny items and messages specific for married folk!

And just like that, years of imagining, months of planning and hours of anticipating was over. Our wedding was altogether perfect. So many people poured themselves into making that day possible, and we are still incredibly thankful for all of our friends and family that helped make our wedding the best experience we could have wished for. A special thanks go out to Tyler and Emily from Tyler Rhoads Photography, our brilliant wedding photographers and great friends.

Above all, we thank God for the privilege of dedicating our lives to each other and to serving Him in marriage together. This truly special day was a celebration of two imperfect people coming together in holy covenant, committing to show love and kindness to those around us.
